Sponsorship

Football

The Barclays Premier League is thought by many to be the most exciting and competitive league in the world. Football stars from all over the globe come to England to play – and every season 380 matches are beamed to over 700 million homes in more than 200 countries, capturing the imagination of fans from London to Lusaka.

Absa, the South African financial services institution majority-owned by Barclays and the country's leading retail bank, has long supported sport in South Africa. Absa is currently the title sponsor of the Absa Premiership domestic football competition.

Barclays also sponsors key football bodies in the UK, including the Football Writers’ Association, the League Managers Association and the Professional Footballers Association.

Tennis

The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals provides an exhilarating platform for the eight best male tennis players of the season to meet in a series of matches and crown an overall champion. Held at The 02 Arena in London, it is now the largest indoor tennis tournament in the world and attracts a live audience of a quarter of a million people at the venue.

Golf

The Barclays is the first event of the end-of-season Fed-Ex Cup on the PGA Tour in the United States. The tournament is played each year on a course rotation in the New York City tri-state area including Bethpage State Park's Black Course, home of the 2002 and 2009 US Opens.

Their global golf involvement also includes the Barclays Kenya Open on the European Challenge Tour.

Barclay's also sponsor Phil Mickelson, who has accumulated 43 career wins to date, and with his winning of the 2013 Open Championship has now won five majors, and is a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Phil is a great ambassador and role model for the game.

Rugby Union

Through Absa, the official team sponsor, we support the world-renowned Springboks, who have twice lifted the IRB (International Rugby Board) World Cup. Our support also extends to the Springbok Sevens team, the SA under-20s and the Springbok Women's team.

Absa has been sponsor of the Currie Cup for over 25 years. Steeped in history and tradition, it dates back to 1889 and is the oldest provincial rugby competition in the world. The tournament is regarded as the cornerstone of South Africa's rugby heritage, and the coveted gold trophy remains the most prestigious prize in South African domestic rugby.
